SEO – What Is Linkbaiting?

July 8th, 2010

If you want to get top rankings in the various search engine, you absolutely have to get backlinks in order to do so. If you are able to have your customers search for your targeted keywords in Bing, Google, or Yahoo, and have your website show up on the first page, you will have a potential goldmine on your hands. So, how will you get these links from other websites?

If you want other websites to link to yours then you need to give them a reason to do so and, other than paying them (which is frowned upon by the search engines), your only option is to have something on your site that is of real interest to others. This could be a video, a game or a picture, but a well written article will often be enough.

If you produce something that is both high quality and different then people will definitely link to it. This process is called linkbaiting and requires you to produce something that is above and beyond what is available on other websites. The more unique you are with your idea, the better. Remember, if you are churning out the same content as other people then why should anyone link to your site rather than the other similar ones?

It is known that you can produce effective results with linkbaiting, and it is the most effective way to get the people to visit your website. If you just allocate a little bit of time to create the best linkbait you can, you will be sure to have hundreds of people linking to your website in the space of a few months. These will be highly effective and relevant links that will attract people interested in your niche.

There are those people, however, who are simply too lazy to go through the linkbaiting process, and just spend rigorous hours building manual links that go to their website. While this can also be effective, it is no doubt far more effective and time-efficient than to use linkbaiting – that way other people are linking to your website for you, without any other work on your part.

In the event you are struggling to create your own linkbait, there are companies out there that will help you make this content and advertise it for you. You will have to pay them a moderate fee, but it is well worth it once you start getting the business that all of this linkbaiting gives you. As long as you pick a reputable company that you can trust and who have given success to others before, you will surely find the same success yourself.

Best Linkbaiting Techniques

November 1st, 2009

Linkbaiting is is something we (webmasters) do whether we realize it or not! We all try (hopefully) to write compelling, high quality content, that deserves to get linked to. So when you get one of those completely “natural” back links, I mean, it just doesn’t get any better than that does it? It always brings a smile to my face!

Creating content that prompts one-way in-coming links from other webmasters is not only complimentary but also a “vote” of confidence that Google cannot ignore.

The methods you use to try and get people to link to your content is only limited by your imagination, and some will stop at nothing in order to succeed, hence the bad rap linkbaiting has gotten in some circles.

I’m not writing this article to argue the ethics of linkbaiting, but to give what I feel are the five best techniques you can use for getting some of those links.

My five all time favorite, best, tried and proven linkbaiting techniques:

Write content that is the best “out there” on your chosen topic. Make your content compelling, unique, attention grabbing, provocative, and make sure it provides real, useful, value for your visitors.

Let them hear it from you first-Be the first to break the “big” story. Stay on the cutting edge. Subscribe to magazines, trade journals, or any source of up-to-the-minute happenings in your niche. Try to be the one who gives them “the scoop”.

Provide a free tool or piece of software-This can really make the back links show up! If you are unable (like me!) to produce the tool or software, you can always buy it or pay someone to code it for you. The more useful and “used” the tool or software the more links it will generate.

Provide a list of links to high value sites or resources-Give your visitors links to more info, or more resources on your niche. Try to make your list the most complete, or the very best list available, try to stand out for the pack!

Give things away-Free stuff is always a hit! The more value you give away the more value you will receive in return.

Use these techniques, and use them consistently as you write your content, wether it’s blog posts, articles, website content, etc. and you will find your offerings linked to more and more often. And naturally occurring backlinks are the best kind!
